Any day that I get a package from BeeBop (my mom) is a good one. And yesterday’s mail came at the right time; a 5-hour work meeting had me feeling pretty cranky.
We ripped open the box and it was even better than I had imagined: a potty training gift pack!
As you know, Zana started going peepee on the potty at school last week. She only does this at school, and pretends she doesn’t know how when she’s with us.
Since BeeBop knows that a party ain’t a party unless we’re all invited, she sent new undies for everyone!
For the potty trainee… bloomers!
For the big sister… multiple fluorescent options that she believes look better layered.
For Daddy… underoos! No really. Superman underoos and Bevis and Butthead boxers.
And for me… a bunch of goodies from Victoria’s Secret.
Naturally, all of these needed to be modeled immediately. Outside in the street. For everyone to see.
I’ll spare you the pics of Dave posing like Superman in his underoos and me wearing a VS thong with the girls’ fairy wings and pretending I’m in the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion show. But trust me, Dean Cain and Heidi Klum would be jealous.
When the paparazzi was done taking pictures, we all went inside and I changed Zana’s wet diaper.
If you think I’m stressed about this whole potty training thing, you’d be wrong. My potty training philosophy is that I don’t have one. I was apparently fully potty trained by 18 months, but that’s because BeeBop was an overachiever. Zana is already 2 ½. It’ll happen eventually, right? Before college?
What’s your potty training philosophy? And, more importantly, what are your favorite kind of undies?

My mom really did send a thong, but I didn’t really put on fairy wings and model it… at least not on the front porch.

Your mom sounds awesome and it’s so great of her to send everyone undies. I’m smiling :). What, no pics of you and the hubs? I wouldn’t post either. Kids are much cuter! Ugh, potty training. I was reading this ebook, Oh Crap Potty Training, and I was all gungho about doing the whole 3-day potty camp, no undies, etc. but then I got back to earth by my daycare, in a good way. It’s ok not to force it now because even if he may be able to understand what pottying is, he may not able to physically hold it. Also, it’s fine to wait until all the 2 yr olds are focusing on potty training, which is just 2 weeks away. And now, I’M SCARED! I don’t know WHY! Am I scared he’s growing up? Am I scared that we won’t be successful? Our daycare has a rule to be potty trained by 3, which I find reasonable even if Dr. What’s His Name says it’s not. Does yours have a rule? Of course all kids get it eventually!
MomInDCity says
My daycare has no rule, although they start having all kids sit on the potty several times a day starting at age 2. It’s a routine, which is probably why Zana is actually doing it there and not at home (we have no routines).
Maybe you’re scared because you don’t want to mop up pee and poo all day??? That terrifies me. Good luck! I am sure J will do great!

Yea, the dirty-ness definitely scares me! What’s worse, what if I can’t stop the puppy from running through it and trekking all over the floor! EW!

Love your mom!
We are obvs PT-ing too. My philosophy has completely changed this week. It used to be ‘when he’s ready, he’s ready..don’t want to push him…maybe it’s not his time’ to ‘you are obvs perfectly capable of doing this, and you are starting school next month, and then I am having a baby so let’s do this!’
We’ll see! So far, it is going well..good luck to you!
MomInDCity says
Oh yeah, the “I’m having a baby” thing is a good motivator. I mean, how many diapers can one person handle in a day.
Keep me posted!

I’ve been reading your blog for a while but on my phone and finally had a chance to read at the computer (and, therefore, comment). This is a timely post for me. Chloe turns 3 in a week and potty training is on the brain! I’m still clinging to the excuse that she’s a former micro preemie and I don’t think her body is ready for it. She fills her diaper at night and during naps and pees every time there’s a tiny bit in her bladder.
We sit on the potty about 4 times a day and she’s ALL about it. I currently have 15 potty books from the library on her bookshelf and she loves them. She talks the talk for sure – “I’m a big kid. I put my peepee and poopoo in the potty. I want to wear big kid panties, etc etc.” But she’s not walking the walk. I’m fortunate that they’re ok with diapers at PreSchool. Otherwise, I’d be freaking out. For now, we’ll just keep waiting for that miraculous moment when the last piece falls into place (so to speak).

Cyndi! Your comment somehow got stuck in the “unapproved” portal and I’m so sorry that I just saw it!
1. Thanks so much for reading.
2. How’s the potty training going? Is Chloe totally trained now? Zana is and isn’t, depending on the day of the week. Sometimes it’s pull-ups, sometimes underwear. Sometimes accidents, sometimes no accidents. I feel like she’s playing a game with me!

I just love, love these two pictures. Seriously. Can’t even. So.Freakin.Cute. And, your mom is the best…guess that’s where you get it. 😉

Awww, thanks Wallis. I can only wish to be like I mom one day. She really is the best.
